No sew headboard

Boo's new headboard

4 years ago Boo and I were taking a walk in the neighborhood when we came upon a huge canvas leaning against a neighbor's garbage can waiting for trash pick up. They can be pricey (that size at Michael's goes for $99), especially ones this big, so I knew I had to have it. I was pushing her in her stroller w/ one hand and lugging the canvas w/ the other hoping none of my neighbors would see me hauling it in fear they would think I actually liked the painting! Made it home safely and it's been sitting in the garage all this time because I haven't figured out what to do with it. I haven't been inspired to paint in a very long time. Well, the other night I lay sleepless in bed because I was bombarded with decorating ideas and that's when it came to me. I would use the canvas as a headboard for Boo. Finally around 2 am, I managed to fall asleep but the first thing I did when I woke up was measure the canvas and would you believe it - it was the PERFECT size as a headboard for a queen bed! Boo asked me what I was going to do with it and when I told her, she said:

Boo: I like the cat picture. I want it on my wall.
Me: I don't think so. It'll give you nightmares. (Immediate regret as I spoke those words.)

Boo: What's that mean?

Me: Um, nothing. Forget it. (Moved quickly on to another topic. Thankfully she let go of the idea.)

I wiped it down with soap and water since it had been collecting dust then covered it with a twin duvet cover I picked up at IKEA. I removed the stitching of the opening so I could slip it over the canvas - got lazy and just pulled it apart gently but would've been smarter to use a seam ripper. I thought of wrapping the canvas with batting but decided to skip it and it's fine without it. I thought I would need to cut up the duvet to fit but it slipped on, dare I say, PERFECTLY! The extra length is tucked behind the canvas at the bottom and it's unnoticeable. I don't even have the headboard attached to the wall because it's sitting on the floor and the mattress and box spring are holding it in place. Since Boo is still prone to rolling off her bed, I want her bed to be as low as possible so I have the box spring directly on the floor rather than sitting in a frame. I originally had it on so the material lays flat but I scrunched it and like how it looks. So there you go, a non-sewing headboard that took a couple minutes to assemble!

Materials:
- Canvas dimensions: 61' x 49 3/4" (Michael's carries a 60' x 49". Mine is slightly larger because of the frame.)
- Duvet cover: Twin

It was if the star aligned with the size of canvas and duvet. They are a perfect combination and it looks so good. I just put a double bed in my little girls room and am on the hunt for a great headboard. This is such a wonderful idea.

Wow that's genius!! I always want to take on home deco projects but get intimidated by the thought of staple guns and glue everywhere!

It took me a while to realize what you did, I didn't realize how big the picture really was. This headboard is AMAZING!!!! Cudos to you, and the cat is a bit scary. HA! Ha!
